Join the discussion: Would a USB-C port help you switch from Android to iPhone 15?
Apple’s iPhone 15 and Watch 9/ Ultra 2 announcement has now ended (though you can rewatch the livestream her). At the event, Apple unveiled a host of new products, among which the new iPhone 15 and 15 Pro series, now with a new USB-C port, as well as revamped AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C port (they are the same, but the case now has a USB-C port).
And I wondered, how big of a deal that new USB-C port actually is? A lot of people have been wanting it for ages now, and courtesy of the EU, it looks like Apple is finally being pushed into replacing the groundbreaking-but-ageing Lightning port with USB Type-C – a port which is already found on a number of other Apple products, like iPads and MacBooks.
This move will allow the new iPhone 15 to benefit from faster wired charging, faster transfer speeds, as well as make things much more convenient for users, because almsot all other modern consumer electronics products tend to use Type-C nowadays. Of course, it’ll also make it easier for consumers to switch between iPhone and Android. I’m really not sure if that is good or bad news from Apple’s perspective. Like, do they see it as making it easier to escape the Apple ecosystem and run to Android, or do they see it as making it easier for Android users to switch to iPhone…
So, let us know what you think in the comments: does the iPhone 15’s new USB-C port make it that much more attractive in your eyes, or is it all the same, as far as you are concerned?
